About
Award-winning violinist and composer, Devin Arrington, has performed all over the world in venues as far reaching as Carnegie Hall in New York City to Assistant Concertmaster of the Delhi Symphony. A winner of the 2019 Pittsburgh Concert Society Major Auditions on solo violin, Mr. Arrington has performed with America's Got Talent's Jackie Evancho, guitar legend Phil Keaggy, and jazz artist Cyrus Chestnut.
A sought after composer, Mr. Arrington's compositions have been performed by the Cuarteto Latinoamericano, Pittsburgh Girls Choir, Westmoreland Symphony, Edgewood Symphony, and Ohio Northern University Orchestra, among others. Awards include the New York Youth Symphony's First Music Prize for his String Quartet #2, a 2006 Fellowship in Music Composition from the Pennsylvania Council for the Arts, and a special distinction in ASCAP's Nissim prize for best orchestral score.
Committed to bringing Pittsburgh's talented musicians into local healthcare settings, Mr. Arrington started the non-profit Musicians With A Mission (MWAM) which he has directed since 2010. After coordinating hundreds of performances in local nursing homes, Pittsburgh’s NPR station (WQXR 90.5) featured MWAM in its 2018 segment “90 Neighborhoods, 90 Good Stories.”
Mr. Arrington holds a B.A. degree in Music from Middlebury College (summa cum laude) and M.M. degree in Music Composition from Carnegie Mellon University. His principal teachers have included Salvatore Princiotti, Yehonatan Berick, Huei-Sheng Kao, and Leonardo Balada. Mr. Arrington offers private lessons from his home in Morningside in violin and composition and performs violin music for weddings and events. He is grateful to perform on a wonderful 2001 Joseph Curtin violin.

Compositions
Arrington String Studio
Mr. Arrington has been teaching privately in Pittsburgh since 2004 when he graduated with a Masters in Music from Carnegie Mellon University. He teaches over 30 students of all ages and levels from his home in Morningside and through Duquesne University’s City Music Center. Many of his students have held principal positions with the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony, Three Rivers Young Peoples Orchestra, and other area youth orchestras. In 2010, Mr. Arrington was chosen as a Shinichi Suzuki Teacher Training Scholar and granted a full scholarship to attend the American Suzuki Institute in Wisconsin for the summer. He has completed training through Suzuki book 7 with Teri Einfeldt, Alice Joy Lewis, and other notable pedagogues and has been a guest teacher at several prominent summer music festivals.

My teaching style is to combine the best of the many different methods and teachers I have had the privilege of working with since I started lessons at the age of 2 with the Suzuki Method in Atlanta, Georgia. For the younger children, I incorporate many of the games that I learned from my experience and training as a Suzuki teacher. As students advance and age, I incorporate an increasing amount of scales, etudes, bowing exercises, and a wide range of repertoire to keep them fascinated with the possibilities of sound that can come out of the violin. Fiddle tunes are a favorite with all ages and often included in our recitals.
